Robustness circle

The robustness circle works with three domains: construction, deconstruction and transformation.

In order to increase the robustness, it is important that there is balance in the domains and you can also accommodate the different emotions that are in the different domains.

The Robustness Circle was developed by Niels Rahbek and Carsten Møller, who are both teachers and therapists. The robustness circle is a concrete tool that you can use in the dialogue with individuals or groups of children, and which can activate the mirror neurons. The mirror neurons allow us to mimic movements, and are precisely the property that enables us to “mirror” other people’s movements with our own body.

Advantages of the Robust Circle

  • Used for emotional mirroring.
  • Used to express emotions.
  • Initiate a change of emotions.
  • Help to create awareness about the variability of emotions.
  • Used in conversations and work with individual children both individually and in group contexts.
  • Help children become better at reading to others.
  • Help to externalize emotions that can be unmanageable.

The Robustness Circle has proven to be very beneficial in working with children and others who may have difficulty expressing themselves emotionally – especially for people with cognitive challenges, special needs, autism or people who have difficulty reading and showing facial expressions.
